Great hiring begins with a complete skills picture, and a complete skills picture starts with connecting competency into hiring.
At SkillBank, we go beyond the resume and provide people and organizations with this critical connection point, infusing competency into the skills landscape of talent, sourcing, recruiting, and hiring. We see competency as a mechanism that not only quickly unlocks opportunity, but enriches organizations and develops people on longer timescales. Competency is also a natural and unexplored vector, and when it is optimized and integrated into the recruiting process, the efficacy of talent-matching emerges – not only transparently and intuitively – but orders of magnitude better than current TA models and hiring journey's.
Current State
25 years into the online job application and ubiquitous button for "upload-your-resume", the business of search (candidate) and recruiting (TA) hasn't fundamentally changed and remains predominantly manual, inefficient, and fragmented with low NPS across the board. Even with advancements in consumer career tech, HRtech and HCM, what is still clearly lacking is a viable enterprise SaaS alternative paired with a recruitment breakthrough feature that unleashes robust talent-matching at scale and velocity via competency. SkillBank does this.
What we currently have in place is no longer sustainable, suitable, or scalable in the context of "future of work" local and global hiring scenarios. Even more, the stakes for talent-matching disruption have never been higher and the global pandemic accelerated all of it, including the exacerbation of tight labor supply numbers, rise of remote and distributed work, the “Great Resignation” (quitting spree), and extended themes of skills and "talent shortages". There’s clearly a lot on the line. At SkillBank, we think we have a solution for most of the madness, and it starts with “competency based hiring".
Future State and Implementation
It's nobody's fault, but we inadvertently over-complicated hiring and now it’s time to uncomplicate it. SkillBank starts with basic job information and insights about people and their potential to do extraordinary work based not just on skill level, but a suite of competencies. It’s important to keep in mind that competency simply means applying a set of related knowledge, skills, and abilities required to successfully perform a particular job. It might sound a little bit like skills testing, but it’s not because Competency Based Hiring needs at least these two key ingredients:
You need a suite of competencies relevant to the job opening; and
You need an effective and standardized scoring system
We provide both. Competencies form bridges between jobs and industries. A winning formula in the modern workplace is the successful application of appropriate competencies to a job, and as the world of work evolves, a deep understanding of these bridges is essential knowledge for any organization to thrive.
Hey Brad, you make a good case. To hear the head of the Indeed parent company say he wants to get rid of the resume, you know the landscape is shifting. I'm super glad SkillBank.io is part of the shift.
